OUR STORY

THE STORY BEHIND STOCKMAN's RIDGE

Jonathan grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, where life revolved around sun, surf, and sand. But it was the stories of Australian Stockmen - their grit, practicality, and deep connection to the land - that stuck with him.

In his early twenties, he traded thongs for boots and headed inland, planting his first vineyard on the exposed slopes of the Central Tablelands. From the start, the goal was simple: do the work properly, and let the wine reflect it.

Stockman’s Ridge Wines was built on that mindset, sleeves rolled up, working with the land, and not interested in shortcuts.

The first Shiraz, bottled in 2008, set the tone early, winning multiple gold medals and proving that attention to detail in the vineyard pays off in the glass. Since then, new plantings in the richer soils of the Orange wine region have allowed that approach to evolve even further.

Today, we focus on farming for flavour. From soil health to hands-on vineyard decisions, everything is done with the aim of building depth, character, and balance into the fruit before it ever becomes wine. The result is a range of cool climate wines, including Pinot Noir, Grüner Veltliner, Shiraz, and Zinfandel, that genuinely reflect the Orange region.

There are easier ways to grow grapes and make wine. We’re just not interested in them!

At the cellar door, though, it’s a different story. The experience is relaxed, welcoming, and unpretentious, no jargon, no pressure, just good wine, enjoyed your way.

Whether you’re visiting for a wine tasting in Orange NSW, planning a wedding, or gathering with friends, Stockman’s Ridge offers a down-to-earth, vineyard setting that feels easy to settle into.

Done properly in the vineyard. Delivered simply at the table.
